Then perhaps, according to your assumption or personal observation, there should be a rift created between those seeking job prep and university education. Keep critical thinking in the university and have those hungry students dig for the knowledge they seek, and let those who just want job schools to move on to trade schools. It may be a lofty ideal, but i believe it's hurting our educational system by not allowing those who want to learn to be encouraged through what i see as a possible solution or, at the very least, a necessary direction to bettering themselves. This could explain why there is such a large underground education system in this country (i.e.-the Esalen institute in Big Sur), that exists to offset a university system that is not meeting the needs of those who crave more.

One problem, a large chunk of college students really don't have any interest in their classes. They are there as prep for a job, because they don't want to work, because it's expected, etc.

Constructivist is a proper ideal, but it doesn't work in practice for 2/3 of students.

I still feel the need for basic classes. For me, the statistic class was very useful. There are some instances where a traditional or semi-traditional class room structure can work and work best.

The problem really just comes with the vast amount of people that seek higher education. While I would say this is good, most people are out for their piece of paper. I myself, while interested in graduate school and the additional information it provides, just want my piece of paper so I can work as a collegiate strength coach. Learning will occur for the rest of my life, so if I miss something in these 2 years, I am sure it will come back.

You're right about this, Charlie! I wonder why this approach isn't used more often. Our educational approach seems to have hit a stable pattern, and needs to get shaken up a bit, so that it can be changed...
